Hi all, I started Kindergarden at Dunbar when they had sand boxes in the rooms. Yes that's right. There were classes on the first floor that had the little brown wooden chairs, large wooden blocks to play with, and a sand box in the classroom. After Kindergarden I went to Thomas G. Hayes #102 wich was located at Jefferson and Caroline Sts. where St. Phillips Church presently stands. After leaving #102 I came to Dunbar which used to be #133. I went from the seventh grade to the twelth grade at Dunbar and gratuated in 1965. I worked for a while then went into the Marine Corps in December of 1966. After bootcamp I was stationed onboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal which had 5000 Sailors and 52 Marines onboard. It was like a city and we were the police and the protectors of the ship, the crew, and everything else onboard. I was onboard when the ship's jets were flying bombing raids from outside of Vietnam in 1967 when there was an explosion and the ship caught fire.
